The development of this resource library and its compilation of resources was funded by the UNICEF-led Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Nutrition Cluster in response to a need identified by delegates at a strategy meeting on IFE.

About the tags
Acronyms & definitions : Common acronyms and definitions that are used in infant and young child feeding in emergencies.
Agency field IFE materials / tools e.g. leaflets: Materials produced by IFE Core Group and others for aid workers in an emergency. Agency handbooks, assessment tools, community resources and related material that might be useful on the ground. Includes materials to distribute and/or to use to teach local people (groups or individuals) during an emergency. For training materials for health / nutrition workers see Training materials. Also see Modules 1 and 2 in Training Materials developed by the IFE Core Group that can be adapted for use in the community and are a good resource. Also look at Technical documents.
Agency HQ IFE materials: Materials that might be useful at HQ level for emergency preparedness and response. Includes job descriptions, standard operating procedures, funding guidance etc. See Agency field IFE materials / tools for more specific items to support aid workers and for them to use on the ground.
Agency reports: Material produced by NGOs and other organisations - may be specifically related to IFE, or may include information that is related to it.
Assessments, surveys & indicators : Material related to assessing IFE in emergencies. Includes guides, papers and examples of materials that have been used in the field.
Balkan, conflict, 1990s: The Balkans was a common term used to cover the countries that came out of the former Yugoslavia and that were involved in conflict that effected this region from 1991 onwards e.g. Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo. Material tends to focus on different countries in the area hence they have been grouped under this heading.

Breastfeeding - basics / myths: Background materials on breastfeeding that have been used to develop the optimal infant and young child feeding guidelines such as exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months and can be used to refute some of the myths about breastfeeding that are commonly heard in emergencies such as the effect of stress and poor nutrition of the mother on the ability to breastfeed
Breastfeeding - general: Material that is about breastfeeding or has a breastfeeding angle but is not about specific issues related to do with breastfeeding that is covered in the other sections: For issues related to how breastfeeding works and common myths to do with breastfeeding in emergencies see: Breastfeeding - basics / myths. For issues related to breastfeeding counselling see: Breastfeeding - support/counselling. For issues related to the benefits of breastfeeding in relation to a reduction in morbidity and mortality see: Breastfeeding benefits / BMS dangers.
Breastfeeding - support/counselling/corners: Materials related to supporting breastfeeding and counselling, including mother-baby 'corners' and tents. Material that 'supports' breastfeeding is not in this category but in Breastfeeding - general
Breastfeeding benefits / BMS dangers: Material that illustrate the benefits of breastfeeding in relation to a reduction in morbidity and mortality and the dangers of artificial feeding especially in emergency settings.
Breastmilk substitute / Artificial feeding: Also know as BMS. A BMS is any food or drink used as a partial or total replacement for breastmilk, whether suitable or not. It includes infant formula, other milk products, therapeutic milk and bottle-fed complementary foods marketed for children up to 2 years of age adn complementary foods, juices, teas marketed for infants under 6 months.

China Earthquake 2008:
Donations (BMS, comp food, etc): Material related to the donations of breastmilk substitutes e.g. infant formula, milk products, juices, etc and commercial complementary foods that often arrive during emergencies.
Donors / Funding bodies: Specific IFE material for donor agencies and funding bodies including a briefing.
FAQs (general): General fact-sheets and frequently asked questions on IFE. There are special guides to IFE for specific groups: General Public, the Media and Donors.
Feeding over 6 months (Complementary): The items in this section relate mainly to complementary feeding (previously called 'weaning'). Which should be started after 6 months of age in order to complement breastmilk - as such it is sometimes referred to as 'timely complementary feeding'. Section includes feeding of the non-breastfed child after 6 months.
Field Experiences / Case studies: Agency reports, field experiences and case studies related to IFE. to find all information on a particular emergency, search using just the tag for the desired emergency.
HIV: Information related to HIV, including how to best support infants with HIV-infected mothers, breastfeeding and HIV, replacement feeding, AFASS, etc.
IFE: Materials specifically relating to infant and young child feeding in emergencies.

Indonesia earthquake 2006:
Infant formula: Material specifically related to infant formula. Infant formula is a breastmilk substitute (BMS) - if interesed in BMS ensure 'Breastmilk substitute / Artificial feeding' tag is ticked. Also see 'Milk powder (not infant formula)'
International Code of BMS: Material related to The International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitues, adopted by the World Health Assembly (WHA) in 1981 and subsequent relevant WHA resolutions, referred to as 'the International Code' or 'the Code'.
IYCF / background: Material that is not related specifically to IFE but may be useful to know. Contains IYCF materials from specific countries.

Malnutrition, premature (Infant) : Information regarding malnutrition of infants and young children in emergencies. Including therapeutic feeding. Also includes care of premature infants as the management and complications are often very similar to malnourished infants.
For the effect of maternal malnutrition on breastfeeding ensure that the Breastfeeding - basics / myths tag is attached.
Media / Newsletters (not press releases): Coverage of IFE in the media related to IFE, breastfeeding, donations, etc. Contains generic information available for journalists on IFE. Includes web articles and agency newsletters.

Photographs: Photos of various aspects of infant and young child feeding, specifically related to emergencies.
Policies / strategies : Key policy, strategies and positions related to IFE. Contains global, country, agency, emergency-specific and generic material. For statements and press releases that are often complied for specific emergencies see: IFE Statements / Press releases.
Presentations: Presentations on IFE by many contributors, for different audience and contexts.
