January 2023: Maternal mental health services in the context of managing small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months and their mothers (MAMI)
In this video, Eilise Brennan (Nutritionist, Emergency Nutrition Network) presented to the MAMI Global Network’s Implementers’ Group the results of a recent survey conducted by the MAMI Global Network on maternal mental health services. The survey aimed to better understand the extent to which maternal mental health services are available and the challenges and opportunities associated with providing them in the context of managing small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months.
November 2022: Breastfeeding support intervention for infants under 6 months of age treated for malnutrition
Dr Martha Mwangome (KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme) presented to the MAMI Global Network’s Implementers’ Group on the IBAMI-2 study. This study investigates breastfeeding support intervention for infants under 6 months discharged from malnutrition treatment. The study follows on from IBAMI-1, which investigated individual breastfeeding support provided by peer-to-peer supporters to mothers admitted to Kilifi County Hospital with infants suffering from illness and acute malnutrition.
September 2022: Male engagement to support positive maternal, infant and child feeding and care practices, Ethiopia
Hatty Barthorp (Global Nutrition Advisor, GOAL Global) presented to the MAMI Global Network’s Implementers’ Group the qualitative research conducted in Gambella, Ethiopia, on increasing male engagement in maternal, infant and child feeding and care practices through the implementation of father-to-father support groups.
June 2022: Piloting the integrated MAMI Care Pathway in South Sudan. June 2022 MAMI implementers group meeting
Elise Vanlerberghe presented to the MAMI Global Network’s Implementers’ Group some thoughts on the maternal mental health component of the MAMI approach which will be implemented by MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) project and partners in South Sudan. Elisa looks at the tools for screening and assessment, considering their appropriateness for the context in South Sudan and suggested some possible alternatives.
August 2022: World Breastfeeding Week - Two More Reasons to Step up for Breastfeeding
ENN shared information about the MAMI Global Pathway Package on August 3rd as part of the Global Breastfeeding Collective’s webinar “Take ten steps up for breastfeeding” and “Two more reasons to step up”. This 10-minute presentation introduces practical details and examples of applied practice for the MAMI Care Pathway Package, followed by an update on the Infant Feeding in Emergencies (IFE) Operational Guidance and a brief Question and Answer session which is compiled here. Dr Indi Trehan (Associate Professor, Pediatrics - Emergency Medicine, University of Washington) presented to the MAMI Global Network’s Implementers’ group the results of the study: ‘Community-Based Management of Acute Malnutrition for Infants Under 6 Months of Age is Safe and Effective: Analysis of Operational Data.’
November 2021: N4G side-event: Growing partnerships: collaborative action & evidence co-creation to transform MAMI
The MAMI Global Network hosted an official N4G side-event focused on partnerships and collective action to co-create evidence to transform care of small and nutritionally at-risk infants under six months and their mothers (MAMI). The event showcased country experiences from Ethiopia and India and featured reflections from the WHO and UNICEF on strategic approaches to transform MAMI care.
August 2021: Supporting Mothers of Nutritionally Vulnerable Infants Under six Months in India
The MAMI Global Network co-hosted a webinar in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Public Health Gandhinagar (IIPHG) and the National Centre of Excellence for SAM Management KSCH (New Delhi) on “Supporting mothers of nutritionally vulnerable infants under six months” in India.
