18 November 2014: The UN Standing Committee on Nutrition (UNSCN) calls for contributions to SCN News 41, which will contain articles, news and publication summaries. Contributions to be submitted by 5th January 2015. Click here for more information.

18 November 2014: The FAO has published Guidelines for assessing nutrition-related knowledge, attitudes and practices (KAP)a reference guide and practical tool for conducting high-quality surveys at the community level. 

18 November 2014: A recently published study in the AJCN provides evidence that ‘orange’ vitamin A maize (with higher levels of beta-carotene) increases vitamin A storage in the body and demonstrates impact of food-based interventions. 

18 November 2014: FAO and CABI have jointly published a book on improving diets and nutrition through Food-based Approaches. The book advocates for nutrition-sensitive, food-based approaches towards hunger and malnutrition. Download here.

10 November 2014: Two major documents for 2014 are now available from FAO: the State of Food and Agriculture(SOFA), and the State of Food Insecurity (SOFI). The SOFA focuses on family farms as the "backbone of agriculture for most countries".

10 November 2014: The Food Systems Academy is a new, free, online open education resource to transform our food systems. Talks can be downloaded and used for training and as a resource. 

 

Events

26 November 2014: The Federation of African Nutrition Societies (FANUS) invites the nutrition community to submit abstracts for presentation at the 3rd FANUS conference in Arusha, Tanzania, 25-29 May 2015. Click here for more information.

Call for abstracts for the 2nd International Conference on Global Food Security at Cornell University, New York 11th to 14th October 2015. The gathering will use innovative means to improve understanding of the drivers of global food security. 
 

18 November 2014: The World Food Systems Conference 'Tackling World Food Systems Challenges' will be held in Switzerland 21st to 26th June 2015 to exchange ideas and lessons learned. Call for contributions is now open, deadline 22nd February 2015. 

18 November 2014: ACDI/VOCA is exploring hosting an event next year around nutrition-sensitive agriculture programming. They would like to gain an understanding of related issues and priorities and hear about your experiences. Email them with your thoughts.

18 November 2014: The UN Nutriton Network will hold a side event at ICN2 on Thursday 20th November - "Healthy Children - Growing Societies". The event will showcase how UN agencies are working together in support of countries' stunting reduction efforts.
