WFP win Nobel Peace Prize

View this article as a pdf

Huge congratulations to the World Food Programme (WFP) for winning the Nobel Peace Prize for 2020! The prize was awarded to WFP “in recognition of its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict”. It is a reminder of how conflict, a man-made disaster, remains a scourge of our times - 68 million people are now displaced due to conflict and persecution (more than ever recorded), while the majority of the world’s refugees come from three countries devasted by war: Syria, Afghanistan and Somalia.1 In these troubled times when nutrition and food security needs more global attention and action than ever, this is something we can all leverage in our work wherever we are in the world.
