SUN Business Network - Tanzania
Enock Musinguzi discusses the successes and challenges of the SUN Business Network in Tanzania. Enock is the GAIN Country Director in Tanzania and co-ordinates the SBN in country. He has a background in food and nutritional science.
Enock describes the Tanzanian SBN as a facilitating role between the public sector and the government - bridging conversations between the two. He describes one of the key achievements of the SBN, where the Network contributed to the elaboration and dissemination of the national nutrition policy. When the Tanzanian government and the High-level Steering Committee were elaborating the new 5-year National Multisector Nutrition Action Plan, the SBN was tasked with mobilising the private sector to participate and contribute the perspective of industry into the development of the plan. Now that the plan has been developed, the SBN continues to support dissemination of this plan among private sectors players across the country.
It is also discussed that business is a highly diverse group including multinationals, nationals and small and medium size enterprises (SMEs). To work successfully with the private sector, there is a need to be able to engage at all levels and to coordinate and support diverse needs.
