Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC) Technical Alliance

ENN is the knowledge management and monitoring partner for the Global Nurtition Cluster (GNC) Technical Alliance (previously GTAM), led by UNICEF and World Vision.  The GNC Technical Alliance, which is currently under development, aims to improve support for countries facing humanitarian situations to meet the nutrition rights and needs of those people affected. It will do this where country and regional capacities are limited by mobilising global resources to address unresolved technical issues with advice, consensus-driven guidance and specialised technical expertise.

Download a short brief to read more about what the GNC Technical Alliance is, why it was developed and what it aims to do. To understand the history of how the GNC Technical Alliance came to be, read this Field Exchange article.

ENN is a member of the GNC Technical Alliance coordination team (together with UNICEF, the Global Nutrition Cluster (GNC), World Vision, and the Technical Rapid Response team) that is guiding and supporting the development and implementation of the GNC Technical Alliance. ENN's online discussion forum en-net is one of the key resources that the GNC Technical Alliance will link to. ENN's specific role in the GNC Technical Alliance is to monitor and document the development and functioning of the mechanism against it’s objectives (utilising our existing publications to share this with the wide nutrition community), and to support the development and dissemination of specific knowledge products in response to needs identified.

A number of needs assessments activities were undertaken in 2018/19 to identify the type of technical advice requests that commonly arise from country level and to identify any gaps in technical knowledge or guidance for the GNC Technical Alliance to potentially address within its initial work plan. ENN, together with the GNC Technical Alliance Core Team, have documented the processes and findings of these assessments as summarised in this ‘Baseline Technical Needs Assessment Report'.

The GNC Localization Learning Package is now available. The brief aims to highlight to local NGOs how the GNC Technical Alliance can support their technical needs - available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and Somali
